Bella, Edward, Jacob, Edward, Jasper, EDWARD!!! OMG! Okay okay, so I haven't posted in a long long LONG while. What have I been up to?? Reading, my friends. I lost my psp mojo and sank into a world of vampires and paranormal romance. Ahhh it's been a nice escape too!
So, let me get this blog post rollin already! If you haven't read the Twilight series then, ahem, what the Hell are you waiting for?!!! Read them, over and over and over again! How can a saga written for the teen audience be so enthralling to us adult women?! Technically us old ladies CAN fall in love with Edward....after all he IS a combined 106 years old! Okay, so after I read these AMAZING books I was left with a hole in my heart wanting MORE vamp and supernatural romance. I'm gonna help you gals out and give some book recommendations for those of you wanting to fill that emptiness left in your hearts and mind after finishing with the Twilight Books ;)
The Host by Stephenie Meyer: So if you are like me then you needed more of Stephenie Meyer's wonderful writing. I'm not a sci fi fan but I love Stephenie's style and depth in her characters and found this book a fun read. It's not as engrossing as the Twilight books but still holds a charm of it's own. My rating: B+
A Hunger Like No Other (The Immortals After Dark Series Book 1) by Kresley Cole: All I can say is "WOW!" This book is HOT and, for me, was truly as satisfying as the Twilight books....seriously! Definitely a book for the 18+ crowd. I've got the remaining Immotals After Dark books on order so I have yet to read them but if they are as good as A Hunger Like No Other then I'm officially converted to a die hard Kresley Cole fan! My rating: A+
Sookie Stachhouse/Southern Vampire Mysteries (HBO's True Blood) by Charlaine Harris: These were so much fun to read! I watched the HBO True Blood episodes before reading this series and as much as I loved watching True Blood, I found the books to be so much better. The romances between Sookie and various characters (yes, Sookie, dabbles in more than one sexy romance with the "supes") keep you totally hooked and wanting more. I thoroughly enjoyed these books. They're different than Twilight but great vamp books nonetheless. My rating: A
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead: Okay, so this book/series has a really good rating on Amazon but I didn't love it....I liked it but it just lacked that certain something for me. It's a young adult book but the language and sexual content makes it a more mature book. My rating: C+
Dark Lover: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward: Again another book that has a good rating on Amazon but this is another series I just liked...and didn't love. The writing is very smart but I wasn't drawn into the characters as much as I would have liked to have been. I enjoy a romantic challenge in a storyline. I don't like to have a love/romance between two characters wrapped up in a pretty bow and delivered to me on a silver platter. The other books in the Black Dagger Brotherhood are a bit better than book one. Still recommended though ;) My rating: B
Halfway To The Grave (Night Huntress Book 1) by Jeaniene Frost: Holy Noodles this book is awesome! I have the remaining books in this series on order so I haven't read them yet but I'm positive I'm going to love them as much as Halfway To The Grave. This is another great sexy vamp book that will leave you thinking about the characters and storyline days after you've read the book. Loved it! My rating: A+
I also recommend anything by Anne Rice. I read the Vampire Chronicles years and years ago and couldn't put them down. Very rich in sensuality and style.
Now for those of you who also enjoying watching vamp stuff....let me also recommend the True Blood series on HBO. So original and sexy! Right now I'm renting all of the Moonlight series dvds and I'm enjoying these very much. The series has since cancelled which I'm bummed about because they are so smart and fun. And, of course, I'm a BTVS fanatic. I will ALWAYS be a die hard Spike and Buffy lover :P
Anyhoo, I hope you found this little list helpful. If you'd like to learn more about these books and read in depth reviews you can find all the books listed on Amazon.com.
